you need to own up to the fact that you’re totally lost so that you don’t lose your company tons of money and screw things up. how did you get hired in the first place if you 1-don’t know what a server is and 2-ask a moronic site like yahoo answers rather than an actual computer support site……good luck, man. sounds like you were at the company from the ground up. sounds to me like they need to invest some training money if they want to keep you….
I don’t know, maybe running their business critical applications, email, CRM, etc. You must be one hell of a BS artist if you are the tech guy for a company that purchases 20 IBM servers at a time. Your best bet is to read the directions and look to the internet for any answers you need. When I am lost I go to google or ask.com and just type my question in the search field, more often than not you can find your answers that way. you can also go to the IBM website and download manuals, or visit forums where other pros post questions. Good luck tech guy
IBM Servers are a class of computers which are extra beefy designed for sharing with groups of people or the Internet.
Usually you are sharing disk or printers .. often they are used to run websites or databases.
Physically they have a nice parts list. They are mostly set up from the factory. Logically there usually is about 4hrs of setup per machine depending on what people wanted to run on the servers.
With 20 machines imaging software is often used to speed up the install process.
If you are the tech guy .. then I don’t think you are long for this job
To help you out of the ditch, there are many that you can hire to help you out. If you cannot think of any other answer then IBM Global Services can help if you will pay the bill.
