JavaSpaces Principles, Patterns, and Practice
We here at Fatbrain.com reviewed both the book and the publisher's summary, and find that the summary is an accurate reflection of the book's contents. The JavaSpaces technology is a new service based on the recently released Jini specification. Jini is the architecture and new cutting edge technology for designing, deploying, developing and using network services in a distributed network environment. JavaSpaces and Jini are actually the flip sides of the same coin. The JavaSpaces model provides object exchange capabilities in which remote processes coordinate their actions. The Jini specification allows distributed programs to interact spontaneously. Either way, it is a big step toward a global distributed computing concept. This advanced Java programming text teaches how to design and build distributed applications using JavaSpaces technology, so please know Java distributed or mobile objects, be familiar with networking concepts and read the Jini spec. Highlights: Authors dive right into application basics and then show how to build one. They also do a good job of detailing building blocks, synchronization and communication issues. Additional discussions include application patterns, leasing concepts (fixed time period resource allocation), distributed event handling and transaction requirements. Advantages: The authors detail the development of two full-scale applications: a collaborative messaging application and a parallel server application. These examples demonstrate exactly how JavaSpaces works. Appendices contain relevant Jini and JavaSpaces specifications. Ken Arnold, one of theauthors, is one of the original architects of the Jini platform. Related Titles: We recommend the following companion volume, The Jini Specification. If you need more
