Cloud computing is quickly taking the technology and computing services industry by storm. It is emerging as an extremely viable solution for businesses who require scalable and affordable access to data storage and web based applications, but want to avoid the problems associated with maintaining a complex, on-site network infrastructure.

Cloud computing allows an individual computer to have access to a much larger pool of network resources through either the internet or a closed, internal network connection.
The three types of clouds are public, private, and hybrid. As the name suggests, hybrid cloud computing is a combination of both public and private and provides the largest variety of services for companies interested in this type of resource distribution.

To properly understand hybrid clouds, it is important to first understand what public and private clouds are. A public cloud uses off-site resources to provide data storage and access to applications to clients through an internet connection. For example, a business located in Georgia can simply access their computing cloud based in New Jersey through little more than a personal computer and an internet connection. The cloud allows you to take advantage of easily scalable storage solutions and allows you to access your data from anywhere in the world.

A private computing cloud allows a company to establish an internal network that is connected to all of the computers in the office. The cloud provides large amounts of data storage that any computer connected to the network can access. Many internal networks provide this type of storage capability to their employees.

A hybrid computing cloud is a mixture of both of these type of computing clouds. A hybrid cloud is particularly advantageous for businesses because it affords them the opportunity to take advantage of an internal network of storage, as well as a public data cloud that can be accessed from any location with internet access.

This means that if any employee travels away from their home office, they can still access all of their important documents and files from their public computing cloud, and still access their data from their internal network while working in the office. The hybrid nature of this network allows a company flexible options, and is particularly helpful for businesses that rely upon telecommuters.

A hybrid cloud is a great option for a business because it provides for an easily scalable source of data storage and access to applications. The flexibility of having both on and off site storage allows businesses to, for example, keep essential operational data internally, while using the cloud space for archiving and general backup.

Many companies like to have a standard internal network to move and share files among their employees. They also prefer to pay for off site data storage because it is much more cost effective than depending exclusively upon internal hardware.
